A wonderful result at the National Bull Sale
20 Sep 2015
Well, the National Bull Sale is over for another year, and both the Society and our stud had a wonderful result. We averaged $7,200 for six bulls, with Riverton Nero selling to Burnett Enterprises at Clermont for $16,000. We were thrilled, as Nero was one of only three bulls ever to be sold by Carinya Leroy, the older brother of the record priced Murdoch. Those three bulls averaged $9,000. We are very thankful to all our buyers and underbidders, and the rest of the Braford buyers who inspected and gave frank comment on our sale team. We are especially proud of our team, as they had a pretty tough preparation. After cyclone Marcia early in the year, the taps were turned off and Riverton really struggled to keep our cattle going forward. The sale bulls only had 70 days of feed as preparation for the sale.

Larry’s pride and joy, his race mare, Suite Annie was recently sold to one of the leading thoroughbred racing studs in New South Wales. She won four races for the Actons in Rockhampton, Gladstone and Emerald, but her breeding meant that she was more valuable as a brood mare. She was a half sister to one of Queensland’s best sprinting horses of the last three years, called Buffering.
The 2014 National Feature Show for the Braford breed was held at Theodore. Larry took down seven head of heifers for the prime cattle section, and won the Pen of Three Milk Tooth Heifers Class and came second in the Single Milk Tooth Heifer Class out of 14 mixed breed nominations.
